Origin: A borrowing from Russian. Etymon: Russian nordit.
Etymology: < Russian nordit (V. I. Gerasimovskij 1941, in Doklady Akademii Nauk SSSR 32 496: see quot. 1941) < nord north n. + -it -ite suffix1.
Mineralogy.
An orthorhombic silicate of sodium, strontium, manganese, calcium, and lanthanides which occurs as light brown crystals.
