Classical Dict. 647/1 Paradoxography came into existence, as a distinct literary genre, early in the Alexandrian age, and continued to be practised for many centuries. 1972 P. M. Fraser Ptolemaic Alexandria I. 454 Their biographical writings..have..a common feature in an emphasis on sensational episodes and characteristics, which corresponds, in the sphere of human action, to paradoxography, which exploits the same unexpected features of the natural world. 1991 Oxf.
