Etymology: < phlor- (in phlorizin n.) + -o- connective.Formations are found from the first half of the 19th cent., chiefly after French or German models. Compare French phloro- (formations in which are found from the first half of the 19th cent.), German phloro- (formations in which are found from the 19th cent.).
