Etymology: < post- prefix + classical Latin pāstus pasture, food ( < pāst- , past participial stem of pāscere to feed (see pascent adj.) + -tus , suffix forming verbal nouns), after antepast n. Compare earlier repast n.
Obsolete.
A small portion of food taken just after a regular meal. Opposed to antepast n. Also figurative.
