prosodiacadj.2

Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: prosody n., -ac suffix.
Etymology: < prosody n. + -ac suffix. Compare earlier prosodiacal adj., prosodic adj.Perhaps compare Hellenistic Greek προσῳδιακός , an alteration (by association with ancient Greek προσῳδία prosody n.) of προσοδιακός prosodiac adj.1 Post-classical Latin prosodiacus prosodiac adj.1 has likewise sometimes been interpreted as showing the sense ‘of or pertaining to prosody’. It is perhaps possible that confusion arose in Latin (which had only o for Greek ο and ω). N.E.D. (1909) gives the pronunciation as (prǫsōu·diæ̆k) /prɒˈsəʊdɪæk/.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
