Etymology: < German Quenstedtit (G. Linck 1888, in Neues Jahrb. f. Mineralogie i. iii. 213) < the name of Friedrich August von Quenstedt (1809–89), German mineralogist and palaeontologist + German -it -ite suffix¹.

Mineralogy.

A rare iron sulphate mineral occurring as white or pale to reddish violet, tabular or prismatic crystals.Quenstedtite is a hydrated sulphate of ferric iron, Fe₂(SO₄)₃·10H₂O. Crystal system: triclinic.
