Etymology: < Raschel- (in German Raschelmaschine (1884 or earlier) < the stage name of Rachel , French actress (see rachel n.), who popularized the kind of fabrics that can be produced with this machine + German Maschine machine n.).
A type of knitting machine noted for its versatility and capable of producing embossed patterns and lacy effects. Also: the warp knitting produced by this machine. Frequently attributive.
