Etymology: < re- prefix + natured adj., originally after German renaturiert (1901 in the article summarized in quot. 1901). Compare French renaturé (1894 or earlier in this sense). Compare earlier denatured adj. at denature v. Derivatives. Compare later renaturation n., renature v.

Of a substance: that has undergone renaturation.
