Perhaps < rickety adj.; perhaps compare also earlier rick n.5 Alternatively perhaps shortened < ricochet n.ricky is recorded earlier in the same sense, and (in spite of the chronology) perhaps shows an alteration of the present word:1936 ‘G. Ingram’ Muffled Man ix. 139 You can think yourself jolly lucky I never made such a big 'ricky' as all that.
