单词 accordment
释义

accordmentn.

Forms: Middle English acordement, Middle English–1500s accordement, Middle English–1700s accordment.
Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Apparently partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: French acordement ; accord v., -ment suffix.
Etymology: Originally < Anglo-Norman and Old French, Middle French acordement, Middle French accordement reconciliation (1139), agreement (c1170; French accordement , rare after the 16th cent., now chiefly in sense ‘action of tuning a musical instrument’) < acorder , accorder accord v. + -ment -ment suffix. Compare post-classical Latin accordamentum (13th cent.; < French), Old Occitan acordamen , Spanish acordamiento (13th cent.), Italian accordamento (a1341). In later (18th-cent.) use apparently independently re-formed < accord v. + -ment suffix. Compare earlier accord n., according n. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (ăkǭ·ɹdmĕnt) /əˈkɔːdmənt/.
Obsolete.
Reconciliation; harmony, accord. Also: an agreement.
