1. A widespread Old World pigeon, Columba livia, having chiefly bluish-grey plumage with a white rump, which frequents coastal and inland cliffs and is the ancestor of almost all domestic breeds of racing and ornamental pigeons and of feral (town) pigeons. Cf. rock n.¹ 7b, rock pigeon n. 1.
