Etymology: < the name of Francis Peyton Rous (1879–1970), U.S. physician, who described the sarcoma in 1910 ( Jrnl. Exper. Med. 12 696).
Biology.
1. attributive and in the genitive, now esp. in Rous sarcoma. Designating a type of virus-induced fibrosarcoma primarily affecting chickens and other fowl.
