Etymology: < semble v.2 + -ative suffix, after semblant n.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈsemblative.
rare.
Coined by Shakespeare (if the text is sound) to mean ‘like, resembling’, or perhaps ‘seeming, appearing’. In the later quots.: Seeming; simulating the appearance (of).
