Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: sense n., -ized suffix, sensize v.
Etymology: < sense n. + -ized suffix, after German versinnlicht made perceptible to the senses (1798 in the passage translated in quot. 1878 and probably also in quot. 1846; < ver- , prefix expressing a change of state (see for- prefix1) + sinnlich sensory, sensual (Middle High German sinlich , sinnelich ) + -t -ed suffix1). Compare later sensize v.
Obsolete. rare.
Perceived by means of the senses.Only in translations of or with reference to the work of J. G. Fichte.
