1937 Smith's Weekly (Sydney) 5 June 5/4 In the deposits at Port Hedland, a new form of tantalite has been discovered, with properties in almost every respect similar to other forms. It has been named Simpsonite, in honor of Dr. Simpson, its discoverer.
1939 H. Bowley in Jrnl. Royal Soc. W. Austral. 25 89 This was sufficient to indicate that it was a mineral not previously recorded so it was decided to give it the name Simpsonite in honour of Dr. E. S. Simpson.., who..has made many outstanding contributions to our knowledge of Western Australian minerals, particularly..tantalum-bearing minerals.
1959 Mineral. Abstr. 14 274/1 Simpsonite is found in a pegmatite vein near Leshai in the northern part of Kola peninsula.
2011 W. L. Pohl Econ. Geol. i. 18 Simpsonite is Al4(Ta,Nb)3(O,OH,F)14 and indicates extreme fractionation.
