释义

Sonderkommandon.

Brit. /ˈzɒndəkəˌmandəʊ/, /ˈzɒndəkəˌmɑːndəʊ/, U.S. /ˈsɑndərkəˌmændoʊ/
Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Sonderkommando.
Etymology: < German Sonderkommando (1944 or earlier), specific use of Sonderkommando military authority with a special responsibility, special military detachment (both late 19th cent. or earlier) < sonder- separate, special (see sunder adj.) + Kommando command, group of people under a single command, (military) detachment (see commando n.). The specific use in German was after Arbeitskommando (lit. ‘work detachment’) regular detachment of prisoners in a Nazi concentration camp (1944 or earlier in this specific sense). The specific use ‘member of such a detachment’ is an English development, apparently under the influence of commando n. 3; German Kommando (or its compounds) cannot denote an individual person.
