Etymology: Partly < spirit n. + -ally suffix, and partly < spirital adj. + -ly suffix2.Compare earlier spiritually adv.; some later examples may simply show typographical errors for that word. Compare post-classical Latin spiritaliter (Vulgate), itself after Hellenistic Greek πνευματικῶς. Compare also Anglo-Norman spiritalment, espiritelment, Anglo-Norman and Middle French espiritalment (12th cent. in Old French).
