Etymology: < stand v. + point n.1, originally after German Standpunkt (late 18th cent. or earlier with reference to a mental point of view, 1805 or earlier with reference to a fixed point of standing).Compare the following earlier examples of German Standpunkt in an English context or as a borrowing:1833 J.
