Etymology: < Old French tas (masculine) (Wace, 12th cent.), also tasse (feminine) (13th cent. in Godefroy), = Provençal tatz; generally held to be of Low German origin: compare Dutch tas, Middle Dutch also tass heap (not known elsewhere in Germanic): see Franck.
Now only dialect.

Forms: Middle English–1800s tasse, 1500s tais, tas, 1500s– tass.
Etymology: < Old French tasse goblet (1380 in Godefroy), in modern French cup = Provençal tasa, Catalan tassa, medieval Latin tassa (1337 in Du Cange), Spanish taza, Portuguese taça, Italian tazza, apparently < Arabic ṭass, ṭassah basin, usually held to be < Persian tast cup, goblet.
Now chiefly Scottish.
A cup or small goblet, esp. one of silver or the like; the contents of this; a small draught of liquor.
