Etymology: < acidify v. + -ed suffix1, after French acidifié (1787 in the passage translated in quot. 1788). Compare earlier acidifying adj.
Originally: (Chemistry) converted into an acid by combination. In later use more widely: made (more) acidic. Cf. acidify v. 1.
