Etymology: Origin unknown.Perhaps compare Scots brainyell to break forth, to rush violently (early 19th cent.; of uncertain origin; perhaps compare Norwegian (Nynorsk) brengja ‘to wriggle, twist’, itself of uncertain origin, perhaps < the same Indo-European base as classical Latin frangere to break: see fragment n.). Alternatively, perhaps compare earlier brangle v.1
