单词 | tropomyosin |
释义 | tropomyosinn. Biochemistry. Any of a group of proteins, originally described in muscle and later identified in many other types of cell in animals and fungi, which bind to actin and in muscle are involved in the regulation of contraction. The tropomyosin molecule consists of two alpha-helical polypeptide chains which associate to form a supercoil. ΚΠ 1946 K. Bailey in Nature 23 Mar. 369/1 The exact relation of tropomyosin to myosin itself is equally obscure, but the analytical and structural similarities indicate that it is a species of myosin differing mainly in the length of the polypeptide chain. In proposing the present name, we have deemed it desirable to retain the word ‘myosin’ and to add a prefix which suggests this specific relationship. 1973 Nature 5 Oct. 235/3 The finding of non-muscle tropomyosins, of course, raises more questions than it answers. 1994 Sci. Amer. Sept. 42/3 In muscle cells this chemical reaction is regulated by calcium ions acting on troponin and tropomyosin, two other proteins that adhere to the surface of the actin filament. 2003 Daily Tel. 17 Feb. 6/3 Most prawn allergies are caused by a protein in seafood called tropomyosin.
