Origin: Apparently a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: blowzy adj.; bousy adj.
Etymology: Apparently partly an alteration of blowzy adj., and partly an alteration of bousy adj., perhaps in both cases as a result of association with browsy adj.With the sense ‘dishevelled, slovenly’, compare browsy adj. 1.
Chiefly regional.
Red-faced; flushed, ruddy; robust, healthy. Also: dishevelled, slovenly. Cf. blowzy adj.Sometimes associated with drunkenness; see etymology and bousy adj. 1.Recorded earliest in frowzy browzy.
