Origin: Apparently a borrowing from Zulu. Etymon: Zulu -vuvuzela.
Etymology: Apparently < Zulu -vuvuzela, verb < an element imitative of the sound made by the instrument (perhaps the same as in isivuvu bullroarer) + -zela, suffix forming frequentative verbs.
Originally South African.
A long plastic horn that produces a loud single note when blown, and is often used by fans at football matches.The use of the vuvuzela became particularly associated with the Association Football World Cup of 2010, which was held in South Africa.
