Iakov Petrovich Riabov
Riabov, Iakov Petrovich
Born Mar. 24, 1928, in Ru-zaevka Raion, Mordovian ASSR. Soviet party and state figure. Member of the CPSU since 1954.
The son of a peasant, Riabov graduated from the evening division of the Urals Polytechnic Institute in 1952. Between 1943 and 1958 he worked at the Sverdlovsk Turbine Engine Plant as a lathe operator, technician, design engineer, department head, and shop superintendent. Between 1958 and 1963 he served as secretary of the party committee of the Sverdlovsk Turbine Engine Plant and as first secretary of the Ordzhonikidze raion committee of the CPSU in Sverdlovsk. From 1963 to 1966 he was first secretary of the Sverdlovsk city committee of the CPSU. Riabov was second secretary of the Sverdlovsk oblast committee of Jhe CPSU from 1966 to 1971 and first secretary from 1971 to 1976. From 1976 to 1979 he was a secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU. In 1979, Riabov was named first deputy chairman of Gos-plan (State Planning Committee) of the USSR. He became a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1971.
A deputy to the eighth through tenth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Riabov has been awarded three Orders of Lenin, two other orders, and various medals.
