Maergoiz, Isaak Moiseevich

 

Born Sept. 4 (17), 1908, in lanov, present-day Vinnitsa Oblast. Soviet economic geographer, doctor of geographical sciences (1965).

Maergoiz graduated from the geography department of Moscow State University in 1937; he became a professor in that department in 1966. His major research has been on the methodology of economic geography, urban geography, economic cartography, and the economic geography of other European socialist countries. Maergoiz developed the concept of the industrial regions of foreign countries.
