Kaifu, Toshiki
(tō`shēkē kī`fo͞o), 1931–, Japanese politician. A graduate of the law faculty at Waseda Univ., Kaifu ran successfully for parliament in 1954. A member of the Liberal Democratic party (LDP), he served twice as education minister before rising to lead the party after the resignations of Noburu TakeshitaTakeshita, Noboru, 1924–2000, Japanese politician, b. Kakeya. The son of a sake brewer, he was first elected to parliament in 1958 and served as chief cabinet secretary, construction minister, and finance minister (1979–80, 1982–86).
