Established: 1958 as Klamath Forest NWR.
Location:45 miles north of Klamath Falls, Oregon.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, viewing sites, hiking trails, canoe trail, auto route.
Activities:Canoeing, fishing, hunting, hiking, wildlife observation.
Special Features:Refuge is named for the historic Klamath Marsh, which lies entirely within refuge boundaries. Its pine forests support diverse wildlife, including great gray owl and Rocky Mountain elk. The refuge appears to be one of the last remaining strongholds of the spotted frog, a candidate for the endangered species list.
Habitats: 40,646 acres of marshes and grasslands with surrounding forests.
Access: Open during daylight hours.
Wild life: Sandhill cranes, white pelican, bald eagle, peregrine falcon, Great gray owl, Rocky Mountain elk, and spotted frog.
