Megapyr

Megapyr

common name for a group of heat-resistant iron-based (Chromal-type) alloys containing about 25 percent chromium and 5 percent aluminum; manufactured in the Federal Republic of Germany. The alloys have high specific electric resistivity (up to 1.45 microhm-m) and a melting point of about 1510°C. Megapyr wires and bands are used in the manufacture of heating elements for electric furnaces with an operating temperature of the heaters of up to 1350°C. Analogues of Megapyr are type OKh23Iu5A and OKh27Iu5A alloys (USSR) and Kanthal (Sweden).
