Komi-Permiaks

a people closely related to the Komi. Most of them live in the Komi-Permiak National Okrug in Perm’ Oblast of the RSFSR. Some of them live in Krasnovishersk Raion in Perm’ Oblast, along the Iaz’ve River (the laz’ve Komi-Permiaks), and in Afanas’evo Raion (formerly Ziuzdino) in Kirov Oblast (the Ziuzdino Komi-Permiaks). In addition, there are settlements of 19th- and early 20th-century Komi-Permiak immigrants in Novosibirsk Oblast. According to a census taken in 1970, there are 153,000 Komi-Permiaks. They speak the Komi-Permiak language. Most of the believers among them belong to the Orthodox Church, but there are also some Old Believers. The chief occupation is agriculture. Many Komi-Permiaks are employed in the timber industry.
