Mari University

founded in Ioshkar-Ola in 1972. As of 1973, Mari University included departments of history and philology, physics and mathematics, biology and chemistry, and agriculture. It also has preparatory and correspondence divisions. There are 16 subdepartments, 70 academic laboratories and offices, a zoological museum, and a biological station. In 1972-73 approximately 2,000 students were enrolled in Mari University.
