Miyakonojo

(mē'yäkənō`jō), city (1990 pop. 130,153), Miyazaki prefecture, S Kyushu, Japan. It is an important railway junction and commercial center with textile, dairy product, agricultural, and lumber industries. It was a castle town of the Shimazu family in the 11th cent.

a city in Japan on southern Kyushu, Miyazaki Prefecture. Population, 114,800 (1970). The city is a railroad junction; there is an airport. The city has textile (primarily silk-spinning), woodworking, ceramics, and electro-chemical plants and an aircraft factory.
