[′päm ‚nət ‚ȯil] (materials) Yellowish fatty oil; soluble in alcohol, either, carbon disulfide, and chloroform; main components are triolein and triglycerides of stearic, palmitic, myristic, lauric, and other fatty acids; used to make soap, chocolate products, margarine, cosmetics, and candles, and as an illuminant and a color for butter substitutes. Also known as palm kernel oil.
