Partnership In Action

A discussion document produced by the UK Department of Health in 1998, which made a commitment to encourage more joint working between health and social services. Partnership in Action set out plans to make partnerships a reality so that people whose needs spanned both health and social services would have those needs met efficiently and cost effectively.
Traditionally there had been barriers between local government and local health authority services, which created confusing obstacles often for the most vulnerable people in society. The success of initiatives such as Health Action Zones and Health Improvement Programmes were dependent on joint working; a number of proposals are set out in Partnership In Action, together with practical guidelines for local authorities and the NHS.
