pressure breathing
pressure breathingThe technique of breathing which is required when oxygen is supplied direct to an individual at a pressure higher than the ambient barometric pressure.
pressure breathing
pressure breathingA method of compensating for the reduced partial pressure of oxygen caused by an increase in altitude. At cabin altitudes above 40,000 ft, the atmospheric pressure is so low that even 100% oxygen fails to prevent tissue hypoxia. Oxygen is pumped into the lungs at a positive pressure to enable the blood to absorb it in the required quantities. Normally, a pressure suit and/or a pressure mask is used in conjunction with pressure breathing. See also pressure suit. |
