Starina I Novizna
(Old and New), a Russian historical collection published by the Society of Supporters of Russian Historical Enlightenment in Memory of Emperor Alexander III, a society of conservative monarchist historians. The collection appeared in St. Petersburg from 1897 to 1917 and in Moscow from 1904 to 1917 as materials accumulated. In all, 22 books were published. Count S. D. Sheremetev (1844–1918), a historian and archaeologist who was chairman of the society, was in charge of the series. Also participating were A. P. Barsukov, N. P. Barsukov, S. F. Platonov, N. D. Chechulin, L. N. Maikov, and K. Ia. Grot. The collection consisted mainly of documentary materials on Russian history and literature of the 17th through the 19th century.
