Reducing-Cooling Unit

a device that is used to lower the pressure and temperature of steam. A reducing-cooling unit includes a reducing valve and a desuperheater. Pressure is gradually reduced by means of throttles having constant cross sections, which are usually installed behind the reducing valve—the decreasing pressure reduces the noise level. Reducing-cooling units are used in thermal and atomic electric power plants to release excess steam during start-ups and emergency operations and also in those cases when the need for low-parameter steam is provided for by a source that has higher steam parameters.
