Sabhah
Sabhah
(also Sabha or Sebha), an oasis in southwestern Libya, on the eastern edge of the Idehan-Ubari, a sandy desert. The center of the oasis and the capital of the Sabhah Muhafaza (Governorate) is the city of Sabhah, with a population of approximately 8,000 (1964). The oasis is a transit point at the intersection of Saharan roads and caravan routes and is linked by a road with the Mediterranean seacoast. It is also served by an airport. Sabhah has a developed handicrafts industry; it also has facilities for the repair of motor vehicles. Date palms, which number 33,000, are cultivated, as well as fruit trees, grains, and vegetables.
