Surendra Nath Sen
Sen, Surendra Nath
Born July 29, 1890; died 1959. Indian historian.
For many years, Sen taught at the University of Calcutta. From 1939 to 1949 he worked in the Imperial Department of Documents, which later became the National Archives. In 1949 he resigned from that post and became a professor at the University of Delhi. He is the author of a number of major works, mostly on the history of the Marathas. In 1956, the Indian government commissioned him to write a history of the Indian Popular Uprising of 1857–59; the work, entitled Eighteen Fifty-seven, was published in 1957.
