stear stasis

stear stasis

The slowing down or stoppage of tear flow behind a contact lens. It can lead to lens adherence (lens binding) to the cornea with the possible consequences of acute red eye, arcuate corneal staining, and, if severe, corneal ulceration. Fitting or refitting in such a way that some lens movement is maintained usually prevents this condition. See lens adherence; fluorescein staining.
