Sallarid Dynasty

Sallarid Dynasty

(also known as the Musafirid dynasty), a dynasty of Iranian origin that ruled Azerbaijan in the second half of the tenth century. Initially, they ruled Deilem (south of Gilan), retaining their independence in the era of Arab domination. In the 940’s, Marzuban Sallarid seized Azerbaijan and part of Aran, thereby establishing the Sallarid dynasty in Azerbaijan. In 971 the Shaddadids drove the Sallarids from Aran. In Azerbaijan the Sallarids were replaced by the Rawwadid dynasty (979–1054), which won a victory over Ibrahim Sallarid in 981 and proclaimed Tabriz the capital city.
