any of the natural organic compounds of the phospholipid group. Phosphatidyl serines are formed from residues of glycerin, fatty acids, phosphoric acid, and the amino acid serine. They are components of biological membranes and are present in significant quantities in nerve tissue. Phosphatidyl serines are synthesized in the liver (seeCEPHALINS and LIPIDS).
