Akhavni

 

(pseudonym of Akhavni Arshakovna Grigorian). Born July 15, 1911, in Kars. Soviet Armenian writer.

Akhavni’s collection of verse Lyrics of the Fields was published in 1930 and the collection Mantash in 1934. The collections Battle Songs (1942) and My Songbook (1944), both imbued with Soviet patriotism, were published during the Great Patriotic War. Prerevolutionary Armenian village life and the radical changes in the destiny of the Armenian peasantry after the October Revolution are manifested in Akhavni’s novel Shirak (1954–63).
