A port on the Atlantic Ocean, St. John’s is the chief economic and cultural center of the island of Newfoundland. The city serves as the base for a fishing fleet. St. John’sa city and capital of the British possession of Antigua; located in the West Indies on the island of Antigua. Population, 25,000 (1967).
