thermointegrator[¦thər·mō′int·ə‚grād·ər] (engineering) An apparatus, used in studying soil temperatures, for measuring the total supply of heat during a given period; it consists of a long nickel coil (inserted into the soil by an attached rod) forming a 100-ohm resistance thermometer and a 6-volt battery, the current used being recorded on a galvanometer; a mercury thermometer can be used. thermointegrator
ther·mo·in·te·gra·tor (ther'mō-in'tĕ-grā-tŏr), Any device for assessing the effective warmth or coldness of an environment as it might be experienced by a living organism, taking into account radiation and convection as well as conduction. Conceived of as a thermal model of an organism, the device usually consists of a standard object (for example, sphere, cylinder), the surface temperature of which is measured while it is being heated internally at a standard rate. |
