Platt, Robert (Swanton)

(1891–1964) geographer; born in Columbus, Ohio. A faculty of the University of Chicago (1919–57), he made nine extended field trips to Latin America. These provided the basis for his major book, Latin America: Countrysides and United Regions (1942). His keen interest in field study is also revealed in his Field Study in American Geography (1959).
