Etzioni, Amitai (Werner)

(1929– ) sociologist; born in Cologne, Germany. Raised in Palestine, he emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1957. He taught at Columbia University (1958–80; Center for Policy Research director after 1968) and George Washington University (1980). He wrote prolifically for both scholarly and popular audiences, often on organizational analysis; his books include A Comparative Analysis of Complex Organizations (1961, later revised) and The Moral Dimension (1988).
