Crippen, Hawley Harvey

(1862–1910) physician, murderer; born in Michigan. In 1896 he settled in London with his second wife, whom he poisoned and buried in his cellar in 1909. With his secretary-lover, he fled on an Atlantic liner, but was arrested on board, becoming the first person ever to be apprehended with the help of radio. Tried and found guilty, he was executed in November 1910.
