Cellular Dam

a dam consisting of longitudinal and transverse walls of concrete or reinforced concrete that form cells that are filled with earth, rock, or some other ballast. Cellular dams are constructed with low or medium heads in order to reduce the amount of concrete used. In the USSR, such dams are built at small hydraulic-engineering complexes with heads of up to 10 m.
