Barsukov, Aleksandr Platonovich

 

Born Dec. 4 (16), 1839, in the village of Ivanovka, Tambov Province; died Apr. 15 (28), 1914, in St. Petersburg. Russian student of early texts and historian. Born into a noble family. Member of the Commission for the Study of Historical Sources from 1883 to 1909.

Barsukov studied mainly the history of the Russian dvorianstvo (the nobility or gentry). Barsukov is the author of The Sheremetev Family (vols. 1–8, 1881–1904), Tales From Russian History of the 18th Century According to Archive Documents (1885), Survey of Sources and Literature on Russian Genealogies (1887), and others. Barsukov also published The Conscript Rolls of Penza Krai: 1669–1696 (1897) and the reference text Voevodas of the Musko-vite State of the 17th Century (1897).
